The photo above is a scene from the film Badlands where, so moved by the Nat King Cole tune A Blossom Fell coming on the radio they pull over the pickup and dance in the headlights. It is a 3 minute clip that is really worth watching right this second.
The whole film is so radically beautiful, every frame could be a still image worthy of framing.
It inspired me to think about this idea of dancing in the headlights, I’ve never done that before but I’d like to try.
I have been working on a playlist of songs for like 10 years that would compel me to pull over the rig and ask my sweetheart to join me in the road… so far I have 4. Very romantic idea if you ask me.
I like to think about songs that are so powerful that they could create a moment like the one Terrence Malik created here. Where time stops and you just have to record it in your mind. I’m quite lucky to have so many in my life. I call it Non-Fiction Music. More on that another day.
